Purpose
GPS stops working the moment you step indoors, yet knowing where people are inside a building, and how far apart they stand, matters for safety, logistics, and crowd awareness. This study asked whether inexpensive short-range radios could fill that gap and locate a person accurately where satellites can't reach.
Description
We built a positioning system that reads the signal strength between wearable radio tags and fixed anchor points, then works backward from those measurements to estimate where each person is standing indoors and how far they are from everyone else. A desktop application processes the raw radio data and plots positions and distances in real time. Turning noisy signal readings into a trustworthy live map of people in a space is a genuinely hard sensing problem, and one we characterized end to end.
