Purpose

Aquaponics keeps fish and plants alive in a single tight loop, which means a power interruption can wipe out the whole system in hours. A research team wanted to prove that such a setup could run continuously on mixed, unreliable energy sources — without a person constantly deciding which one to draw from.

Description

We built an aquaponics system that pulls power from solar, water-driven, and grid sources through a single supply, with a smart controller that weighs live conditions and switches to the best available source on its own to keep everything running. Sensors track the environment around the fish and plants and publish live data to the cloud for remote monitoring. We measured both how well it managed energy and how well it sustained plant and fish growth — the kind of self-governing control problem we like to solve.
