Purpose

Drivers stuck behind another vehicle cannot see the road ahead of it, so they brake and react a beat late — a small blindness that causes real risk. CarWink set out to pass what the front driver sees back to the vehicles behind, through a display on the rear window.

Description

We built a rear-window display that shows road-condition messages to trailing drivers, controlled hands-free so the driver never looks away from the road. Spoken commands in a companion mobile app are recognized and sent wirelessly to the display, which shows the matching message, and the whole unit runs on solar power to stay self-sufficient. Combining voice control, a wireless link, and a self-powered display into a safe in-car device is the kind of applied engineering we take on.
