Purpose
Studying vaping's effect on the heart means watching the heartbeat as it happens, and dangerous rhythm problems can pass in seconds. A research team wanted to catch arrhythmias in vape users' heart signals the moment they appeared, not after the fact.
Description
We built a system that reads a subject's heart signal from a wearable sensor and analyzes the waveform live, flagging arrhythmias including cardiac ischemia, atrial fibrillation, and ventricular tachycardia as it runs. A desktop interface plots the beating trace next to each classification, so researchers see exactly what a reading found in real time. Turning a noisy biological signal into trustworthy, moment-to-moment diagnoses is precisely the kind of hard signal-processing work we take on.
