Purpose

Remote communities often sit beyond reliable cell and internet coverage, cut off from weather warnings and basic news exactly when they need them most. The project set out to prove a long-range, low-power radio link could carry live weather data out of a remote site and send news and messages back in, over distances ordinary wireless cannot reach.

Description

We built a remote station that gathers local conditions, including pressure, temperature, humidity, and air quality, and transmits them over a tuned long-distance radio link to a hub in the city. The same channel carries news and text messages back out to the remote site, making the connection genuinely two-way. We tuned the radio's range-versus-reliability settings by hand until the link held at distance, the kind of stubborn field-engineering problem we work until it works.
